Dauntless Mesabi is a 2004 Hanoverian gelding that had a very successful dressage career and has schooled up to the Grand Prix level. “Liam” came to me 2 years ago when a friend called me and told me that he had struggled with soundness issues and need a home ASAP because his current owners did not have the space for him.
After being shipped to me from Ocala, FL, we completed a full vet work up, we found that as some point in his career he had shattered his right shoulder. Surprisingly, it had healed beautifully and with some rehabilitation I was advised that it was safe to start him in work but no jumping. The next step was to begin consulting with our farrier.
We soon figured out that due to him compensating for his injury, Liam developed what we call High-Low syndrome. In simple terms, one foot grows up creating a “club foot” or “upright foot” and the other foot is a “flat foot”. Thankfully, all he needs are special shoes when he is in full work. In the relatively short time he has been with me, Liam has quickly become the farm favorite! He is our resident go-to guy when anyone wants to groom and love on one of the horses.
