Dauntless Authority came into my life on the backside of Keeneland Race Track just a couple days after his last race. On our “Gotcha Day”, “Gator” was pretty lame or “track sore” which is basically when horses come down off the track and experience body and feet soreness which results from going from working every day to just standing in a stall. Nothing major, just some soreness.
We took him home and gave him about 3 months off to let down from his racing routines. After his time off we put him to work to see what we had. As he was still not quite right, I did some investigating and found that Gator had fractured both hind legs on the racetrack. He was laid up for a year while on the track and recovered to race again. Funny enough after he recovered from his fractures, he won every race he ran following his time off! Isn’t that remarkable?!? His racing owners decided to retire him because of the quality of horse he is and they felt that he had done more than his part and had overcome so much!
Gator is one heck of a competitor and has done nothing but prove himself in the show ring. He ran around the Jumpers, and finished in the prize money, and also finished second scoring a 28 in the dressage and Hagyard Mid-South Team Challenge in October 2019. He has a bright future ahead and will excel in all three phases. Look out world, because Dauntless Authority plays to win and he’s playing big this coming season!
